How long does SEO take? An honest answer with examples

If someone promises first page in 30 days, they're selling something else. Here's a realistic timeline for B2B SEO.

Technical fixes can improve rankings within weeks. Meaningful organic traffic growth typically takes 4–6 months, with compounding results after that.

That sentence is the honest version. The useful version is what happens in each block of time, and what would make it slower.

A typical 6-month arc

  1. 01

    Days 1–30

Audit, indexation, speed, broken templates, cannibalized titles. Rankings often twitch here because Google can finally crawl what you already have.

  2. 02

    Days 30–90

On-page work on money pages. First cluster of new content. You should see impressions and a few ranking keywords. Leads are still thin.

  3. 03

    Days 90–180

Bottom-funnel pages start to earn positions. Internal links from older content kick in. This is when organic leads become a line item, not an anecdote.

What makes it slower

A site that can't be crawled. A market where every head term is owned by a public company. A blog that never links to service pages. A redesign that changes URLs without redirects. We fix the first and the last. We don't pretend the middle isn't real.
